Green Island Week: Empowering First Nations Traineeships!

ITEC Employment with the support of National Joblink (NJL) delivered a tailored work readiness short course that saw twelve, local Cairns Region, First Nations participants become job ready.

The group travelled by ferry to the iconic Green Island Resort, where they had the opportunity to meet and speak with the managers of each department on a guided tour with Green Island HR Coordinator, Lani Vincent.

This fun one-week, interactive training program was designed to develop the foundational skills for work across six different tourism industry careers: cooks, kitchenhands, food and beverage attendants, baristas, administration and public area cleaners.

Throughout the program participants developed workplace skills including:

  • Job preparation and interview skills
  • Workplace and employer expectations
  • Resilience and wellbeing
  • Communication and teamwork
  • Digital literacy

“In just five days of training, the program had exceptional attendance, active participation and we even celebrated four participants securing traineeships when the program ended!” Libby Molloy, Operations Manager, ITEC Employment shared.

“Congratulations to all of our participants, this is only the beginning of a great future ahead of them” said Martin Kernbach, CEO of ITEC Employment.

We look forward to empowering more First Nations people to get skilled and secure the job they want today.
