In response to the shortage of skilled staff in traffic control and shipyard labor, NQ Staff Services, You Care, and ITEC Employment launched an exclusive pilot program for First Nations participants, funded by the Workforce Australia Employment Fund.
We are thrilled to announce that all 9 participants successfully completed the program and gained valuable certifications, including:
- White Card
- Working at Heights and Working in Confined Spaces or Traffic Control accreditation
- First Aid Certificate
- Use of Hand and Power Tools
- Work Readiness (covering communication, goal setting, employer expectations, and workplace tours)
- Additional one-on-one support for Language, Literacy, and Numeracy (LLN) from You Care
Six participants achieved Traffic Control accreditation and began their careers with NQ Traffic Services, while the remaining three commenced employment as laborers with NQ Staff Services.
ITEC Employment provided all participants with Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), work uniforms, covered transport costs for the 20-hour work placement as well as the first 4-6 weeks of employment. Participants also benefited from mentorship by ITEC Employment’s First Nations Mentors, who offered guidance, support, and assistance in obtaining their Traffic Control License.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to our employer partners, NQ Staff Services and NQ Traffic Services, for their invaluable program and employment support as well as engaging in individualised Post-Placement Support (PPS) from ITEC Employment. So many more participants and employers will benefit from this successful pilot program.
From all the ITEC Employment Team.
