ITEC Employment is a Workforce Australia First Nations specialist employment services provider for the Cairns region.

With over 30 years’ experience working with First Nations peoples in regional and remote areas, we are dedicated to providing you with services that respects your cultural identity, support those with non-vocational barriers, and assists you to get the skills you need for the job you want.

What is Workforce Australia? 

Workforce Australia is a program funded by the Australian Government to improve your job readiness and help you secure long-term employment.

The right support leads to the right connection 

We are a specialist in helping First Nations peoples in the Cairns Region. Our First Nations Mentors and employees understand your culture, listen to you and provide the services that you need to thrive. With seven safe and easily accessible sites located across QLD, we can work closely with you to get the services, tools and equipment you will need to reach your goals including things like access to transport, specialised training, technology, internet and more.  

How does it work?

Step 1

Initial Appointment 

We’ll explain to you the Workforce Australia services you will receive, your Mutual Obligation requirements, the new Point Based Activation System (PBAS) and help you to link your MyGov account to the Workforce Australia website!

Step 2

Goal Setting

Together, we’ll develop a Job Plan and set clear and achievable personal and employment goals. We’ll identify areas for skills enhancement and explore exciting opportunities for professional growth and development.

Step 3

Support Your Journey 

Find training courses and workshops. Assit with job search, resumes, interviews, etc. Access to mental and physical well-being services. Connect you with local Elders, Mentors, etc. Arrange work experience, job shadowing, etc. Obtain equipment i.e. laptop, uniforms, work tools, phone, etc. Drivers license’s and lessons. Transport to and from work. Barrier management, supporting the non vocational challenges. Employer  support in your new job.

How will we work with you? 

Stage 1: Getting to know you 

We start by understanding your unique situation and goals. This begins with finding out what your skills, abilities, and interests are. Our dedicated Employment Team and/or Mentors will work closely with you throughout your journey, meeting you regularly to identify any barriers, cultural commitments, and needs that you have.  

Stage 2: Planning & Goal Setting 

We’ll explore different job and training options and set realistic goals. Together, we’ll develop a Job Plan to help you achieve your goals.  

Stage 3: Getting ready to work  

We will focus on personal development and training that help you build important skills for getting a job. This includes skills like confidence, teamwork, problem-solving, interview skills, and industry specific skills based on your career goals. During this time, you’ll meet people from different industries and workplaces, including mentors and industry experts to support you on your journey. 

Stage 4: Workplace Opportunities 

We’ll connect you with work experience, internships, job shadowing, or volunteering opportunities to help build your skills and knowledge in the job or industry you want to work in. 

Stage 5: In-Job Support 

We’ll provide support tailored to your needs and those of your employer to help you thrive in your job. Our goal is to make sure you succeed and stay employed.

How do we support you at your job? 

Starting and settling in at a new job can be difficult, especially if you’ve been out of work for a long time. To support you, we’ll provide a dedicated mentor for at least six months who will regularly check in and ensure you receive the support that you need.   

If your feeling overwhelmed by the pressures of your new job or face any challenges, you can contact your dedicated mentor and our team of professionals. We’re here to help you get the right support.  This is how we connect you with the best support and employers to find the right job for you.   

How do you help me with accessing online information? 

Our Employment Consultants will guide you to understand and access online programs, information and systems. We will help you to: 

  • Understand how to use and access computers, smartphones and tablets
  • Set up voice mail, download and use apps, create accounts 
  • Show you how to create an email & MyGov account 
  • Create and save documents 

Access social media networking, search tools, apply for jobs online
